In 2019 I founded Beyond the Plate, a club at Britannia Secondary School which provides opportunities for students to learn about urban agriculture. As founder, I took the initiative to build this club from the ground up - being responsible for organizing meetings, facilitating workshops, and teaching students gardening and cooking skills (even learning a few skills myself). Through my leadership and mentoring students felt empowered to take on initiatives themselves and build the confidence to continue and grow the community of Beyond the Plate. We’re proud to continue maintaining the schoolyard beds and empower other students through community leadership!
